Click to Start Tahiti Hotel Picture Gallery ![]() Most Tahiti accommodation is classified as either a resort with its own dining restaurants, water activities and tour desk, or a pension which is generally a small hotel run by locals as a small family business. View Our Tahiti Resorts Directory Whilst the majority of resorts in Tahiti have over 50 bungalows, there are a handful of smaller more intimate resorts in private settings. Tahiti is renowned for its overwater bungalows and is one of the few places in the South Pacific (and the world) where this type of accommodtion is offered. There are over 30 resorts with overwater bungalows, some with as many as 100 bungalows across the lagoon. Some of the worlds largest and best known hotel chains as well as some smaller local hotel chains have multi-properties around the islands and offer both multi-stay and long-stay packages. Hotel chains include Hilton, Intercontinebal and Sofitel. Pensions are common throught the islands of Tahiti and not only offer the most affordable type of accommodation in this otherwise expensive destination, but also enable interaction with the local people. Holiday homes and up-market villas can be found around the islands and convenience for large families or groups but you will inevitably end up doing some work including cooking and cleaning up. More affordable self catering bungalows are another more affordable way to visit Tahiti and although you will lack the interaction with a local family, money can be saved on the accommodation as well as dining. Unfortunately backpacker hostels are few and far between in Tahiti and there are virtually no budget beach resorts other than on Moorea. Backpackers are best advised to travel around staying at local pensions |
